Potluck Dinner (#106) (Ian and Jason)

Source here. Originally recorded on April 30th, 1998.

This was supposed to be a sort of potluck of a show, giving each of the current members a chance to explore a theme in a smaller space of time but a larger sphere of influence (either unencumbered by or freed from other members' wills).

What transpires is three very different pieces.  However, we only have two right now.  Lisa's may be lost to time, I fear. I need to dig through the remaining recordings to determine if it's still here.

Also note incidental Mac sounds.....
  1. Announcement and Explanation
  2. Densely populated concert halls
  3. Engraved Television Weapon
  4. Lightsaber Battle
  5. Cardboard box saw

(#84) A visit from Craig

Source here. Originally recorded on November 27th, 1997.

Thanksgiving happens at or around the same time each year. Relatives come to visit, overindulgence goes from mortal sin to sacrament. This is almost what happened here. I think Ian's brother is the Craig mentioned on this tape, and Lisa and I are absent. However, instead of overindulgence, this set seems almost subdued and restrained, focusing mainly on groovy beats with the occasional intentional background clutter. A delicious diversion. An aperitif. A sorbet.
  1. Lozenge
  2. Shopping List
  3. Exuberationess
  4. 1950s Drum and Bass
  5. The neighbors are driving me crazy
  6. 1-800-mumble-mumble
  7. AIR Interlude
  8. AM feedback dance party
  9. I have amnesia, help me
  10. Bass instincts
  11. Eat that chicken
  12. Devolve into Skronk
  13. I tripped over the orchestra.

Revisit

A friend of mine from undergraduate years has completed for the second year a large project. It involves a lot of coding and time spent on his part, as well as being humorously succinct in writing. I am not so succinct, humorous, or ambitious, but I appreciate the effort and energy that projects of this scale require, and I also appreciate the resultant satisfaction derived from their completion. But check it out, for the humor, the music, and the scale of the endeavor. (Photo by Fellowship of the Rich.)
